I have been a Windows user for a very long time, it’s a great OS overall. However, when it comes to development I prefer the Unix-like environment with a bash terminal.
I use macOS or Linux for my development work and what makes macOS stand out from other OSes, is its looks. macOS is really gorgeous in my opinion and I also wanted my Linux OS to look the same.
There are quite a lot of Linux Distros out there and some of them have really great looks. If you are someone like me who wants his OS to look good then you can check out some the best looking Linux Distro out there.
Although, it’s worth mentioning that, good looking Linux won’t always be the best Linux for you which will fulfill all your needs. But, if you an average Linux user or you don’t mind switching to a different Linux distro then go ahead and choose the one that catches your attention.
Deepin
Deepin OS is based on Debian and its one of the most popular Chinese Linux distro out there. It used to be based on Ubuntu but they decided to switch to Debian with their 15th version of the OS.

It looks clean, beautiful and has a great UI experience, the best IMO. The dock looks similar to what we can see in Elementry OS, however, the File manager and UI icons will give you a more macOSish type of looks when compared to Elementry OS. Not just that, but it also gives you lots of options to change the complete UI like look like its icon style, fonts and etc.
It has a Control Panel slides which can be very useful. It also supports multi-desktop environment. The OS also comes with lots of preinstalled apps like media player, file manager and office apps and all with a beautiful UI.
Elementary OS
Elementary OS is Open Source based on Ubuntu and powered by Pantheon desktop environment. The current version of Elementary OS is 0.4 Loki which was released on 9th September 2016.
Looking at the OS you can tell it has both Linux and Mac OS looks as also suggested by its website tagline which says “A fast and open replacement for Windows and macOS”.

The OS looks clean and beautiful with vibrant wallpapers, crisp icons, and has a great UI experience. It also has multi-desktop mode feature which most of Linux distro lacks, however, it does not come with a file explorer but you can install it by yourself.
Remix OS
This is not your conventional Linux distro and most of you won’t prefer it but, its great, it looks good, its Linux and its freeeee!!
Remix OS is based on Android-x86 project and it was built for users who want to use Android on their Desktop. The OS have a material design UI and icons just like the Stock Android. It has a Windows-like desktop and a start menu. It comes will all the basic app and the great thing is that it can run Android apps, so you have an option to run loads of apps.
This OS might not be the best option for an advanced Linux user or for a developer but it is great for normal use and for those who want to experience Android on their desktop PCs.
Papyros
It is said to be the modern operating system based on Arch Linux which adheres to Google’s Material Design guidelines. And, it is Open Source.

Zorin OS
Zorin OS is based on Ubuntu Linux and it brags about running the same software as from the U.S. Department of Defense to systems on the International Space Station. It can be called as one of the best Linux distro available right now.
Looking at the OS you can tell it looks more like Windows 10, not just that but it will keep you safe from all those malware that Windows have. This OS is built for the ex-Windows users who have given up on Windows and now trying to move to Linux and guess what? It gives the all dark UI which Windows doesn’t.
There are two versions of Zorin OS, the one is free and other one is Ultimate. The Ultimate version comes with a price of €19 and is loaded with lots of games, business apps, media apps and video wallpaper.
Trenta OS
Trenta OS is a based on Ubuntu and powered by GNOME which also aims to replace Windows and macOS.
This OS looks clean and beautiful and it looks so much like macOS that you can say they almost copied the same UI as used my macOS even including the icons.
The website doesn’t give much information about the OS itself so this OS seems more like a themed version of the Ubuntu.
Solus
Solus Project is an Open Source LinuxOSos which not based on any other Linux distro, unlike other mentioned above.
It was first released on 2011 as SolusOS based on Debian Linux and later it was discontinued. The latest version of Solus is 2017.01.01. The UI is clean and beautiful but the desktop is nothing like other Linux distros, although it has a menu which gives you an option to search and browse through apps, but it doesn’t give a feeling of a macOS or Windows like other Linux distros do.
